Waking up at 8am on a Sunday morning should be a crime. And it is a crime which I had to commit this week.
Now, I don’t wake up that early on a Sunday morning for anyone. Oh no, you have to be pretty damn special to get that privilege from me.
There is only one thing that could get me out of bed that early and that is of course cakes. Cakes, cakes and more cakes. I mean, how can anyone resist the smell of freshly baked goods!
The reason for the early start was because Sunday was the day for the annual Cake & Bake Show! A friend and I decided to head on down to Earls Court to fill our stomachs to our hearts content with all the sweet stuff and to see if we could get any tips and tricks on how we could improve our baking skills.
WARNING – The images that are about to follow may cause some distress due to their yummy nature. You have been warned.
After purchasing the brochure we made our way through the endless stalls. It honestly was baking heaven. From cupcakes, to macaroons, to meringues, there was a sweet treat for all dessert lovers. There were stalls selling baked goods, baking equipment, baking presentation/gift bags, baking ingredients…..honestly everything!
We had paid in advance to attend a sugarcraft lesson taught by Elizabeth Solaru (an acclaimed wedding cake designer). During this session she taught us how to create the perfect pretty wedding flowers for cakes, including a rose and filler flowers. She made it look so easy, although I’m pretty sure that if I was to give it a go it would end up in a big pile of mush!
We then headed over to the competition theatre where we got to see all the previous Great British Bake Off winners compete against each other to make the ultimate prune brownie! An added treat for all us baking fans was that all current contestants on this years show were all in the audience…..talk about a celeb spot!
Everything was just ever so pretty! It was hard to resist it all….I fell in love with all the pastel colours, and the whole vintage feel of it. I wanted it all!
And just look at how beautiful this cupcake bouquet is! The colours, the icing, its just pure bliss.
Completely opposite to above but still amazing, is this sculpture made purely out of icing. Can you guess what it’s meant to be?
A stone heavier in weight and a dozen bags full of shopping later, we made our way home.
I hope you enjoyed all the pictures and it hasn’t left you craving cakes. I’ll leave you with this image of a few mini oreo cupcakes I came across on the day, don’t ever say I didn’t give you anything!
Oooo and keep an eye out for my next post where I’ll be blogging about the outfit I wore for the day!
